Description:

Clifton is an old coal-mining suburb in northern Wollongong. It is situated on a narrow area between the Pacific Ocean and the Illawarra escarpment. Along with nearby Coalcliff, this village began life as a coal-mining centre in the 1880s. Many coalminers' cottage-style houses are still in use. Clifton has a railway stop on the Illawarra line and is situated just south of the Sea Cliff Bridge, with parking available if you wish to walk the bridge.
