Alice Springs School of the Air Visitor Centre

Description:

Alice Springs School of the Air was established in 1951 to provide an educational resource for isolated children living in remote central Australia. The Visitor Centre located 3,5km from the CBD offers travelers from around the globe a virtual journey in "The World's Largest Classroom" and reveals stories about the school and its students’ outback lifestyle and the world-renowned innovations of this uniquely Australian school. The visitor experience includes a film and guided presentation providing a narrative about our school’s distinctive history. Visitors view ‘live’ or recorded lessons (outside of school hours) while our guides describe the innovative techniques making it possible for our isolated students to participate in school classes without having to travel vast distances every day. All funds raised in the visitor centre directly support student enrichment programs for what has been and continues to be one of the most distinctive methods of education in the world.
