Description:
The Strathalbyn and District Heritage Centre (Museum) has something for everyone and comprise the Old Court House and Police Station building plus cells and out buildings. The displays focus upon the lives of the original inhabitants and upon the settlers who first came to the district. The Scottish influence is emphasised and displays feature the “Pioneering Families”, “Police Memorabilia”, "Women in Strathalbyn", plus there are period rooms that your great grandmother would recognise. On display there is also a room reflecting changes in health care over the years plus the Strathalbyn at War – Home and Away display. From the courtyard you can access two jail cells. In the yard you can see an extensive collection of farm machinery from the past, including an excellent example of a horse works driving a chaff cutter, a blacksmith's shop, horse drawn vehicles and an exhibit on the award winning Solar Flare (a solar assisted bicycle built at the local high school). An “Early Industries” display completes the picture of Strathalbyn’s heritage from the mid 1800’s.
