Riverside is located on the banks of the Apsley River within the World Heritage listed Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Bushwalking, fishing (permit required) and canoeing trips into the surrounding Macleay Gorges Wilderness Area are just some of the activities on offer as well as picnics, swimming and camping. Vehicle access is limited - 4WD vehicles with Low Range capacity only due to the steep terrain. No caravans or trailers permitted and an access permit is required. Visitors need to book in advance and pay the park-use fee of AUD25 for the key to the NPWS Walcha Office (02 - 6777 1400), or through Apsley Motors Service Station in Fitzroy Street, Walcha (Oxley Highway). The key is for the locked gate at Budds Mare and must be either left in box at gate on return or Apsley Motors. There is a AUD300 fine for not returning the key.
