The Old Smelter in Ravensthorpe operated between 1906 and 1918, smelting gold and copper ingots. It once employed around 120 men. See the mountainous tailing dumps and old equipment which serves as a reminder of the town’s history. The site is located two kilometres south east of Ravensthorpe on the road to Hopetoun. The site is now private property, though you can get a good view of it from the road. If you get the chance to get out to Ravensthorpe you will be amazed by the natural beauty of the ancient ranges, rugged hills and waterways. Take the opportunity to view the surrounding landscape from the easily accessible lookout points. Ravensthorpe is a six and a half hour drive south east of Perth.
