City Gardens Motel is an older style motel where staff pride themselves on providing first class service and a friendly atmosphere. Traralgon has a reputation for its many restaurants as well as providing an ideal base from which to see the wider Latrobe Valley area such as Tara Bulga National Park, the Morwell National Park and Rose Garden, the historic gold mining town of Walhalla and the boating area at the Blue Rock Dam near Willow Grove. The ski resort and bush walking area of Mt Baw Baw to the north and the wide expanses of the 90 Mile Beach to the south are both within an easy drive. The Latrobe Valley is home to Victoria's power generating industry and museums and viewing areas can be easily accessed.
