Description:

The Quilpie Shire Gallery at the Visitor Information Centre has a new exhibition every six weeks and showcases local talent as well as artists from over the country. All exhibitions have an official opening and everybody is welcome to attend, drink and nibbles are provided. In the Courtyard of the VIC you will see more art in the form of corrugated cutouts of a sheepdog and sheep. Once you arrive in Quilpie you will see along the median strip of Brolga Street life size sculptures of cattle and sheep, a drover on horseback and brolgas. A collection of Hebel Sculptures depicting different aspects of the Outback, enhance the front garden. Adjoining the Visitor Information Centre is a park featuring a mural depicting Quilpie's history. In the park you can sit and enjoy a bite to eat whilst you admire the unique hand crafted tables made from the rims of wagon wheels and created by local artist. The table tops are beautiful boulder opal mosaics inlaid with glass tile images. The Quilpie Shire library is adorned with a beaten copper and mosaic installation titled "Ancient River" depicting the dramatic, yet subtle of the elements on the surface of their landscapes.
